Errol McCabe, one of the greatest supporters of New Zealand motorcycle sport died peacefully wednesday night at the age of 84. Errol was extremely proud of his record of more than 50 years of competition stewarding. He never retired from the sport he loved.
Errol served as a board member of the Auto Cycle Union, (before it was renamed Motorcycling NZ), was a Life Member of the Hamilton Motorcycle Club and was a huge supporter of classic and modern trials.
Errol was also a Life Member, Patron and founder member of the New Zealand Classic Motorcycle Racing Register Inc, and served on its Committee for more than 25 years. He was Senior Steward at every one of the 32 hugely successful Pukekohe Classic Festivals.
He bought both wisdom and common sense to the sport and was a cornerstone of the world famous meeting.
Despite some serious health problems Errol never showed any signs of losing his mental sharpness and only last week he was the Senior Steward at the very first motorcycle race meeting to be held at Hampton Downs Circuit.
Errol will be greatly missed by the huge number of motorcyclists and friends who have benefited from his guidance and hard work in the last 50 years.
