NUMBER POLICY
Those at the first round of the 2011 Demon Energy New Zealand Motocross Championship in Timaru would have noticed Josh Coppins running the traditional black and white # 6 we have all come to know and identify him with. This was with the permission and blessing of the MNZ Motocross and Supercross Commission.
In order to recognise the International success of New Zealand Motocross and Supercross riders and any visiting international rider the commission have added a new policy to our rules around race number allocation.
“Where a rider has established an “International Brand” with a particular race number, with the MNZ Motocross and Supercross Commissions’ permission, they may run that brand and number at New Zealand Championship Motocross and Supercross event.”
To qualify for this permission, the rider and his brand would have to be well established internationally in the view of the commission. They would need to be instantly recognisable to most New Zealand spectators in order for them to be identified from another competitor running the same number in the MNZ permitted format and colour scheme.
The commission feels it captures International flavour for our championship events, recognises those that have achieved on the International stage and is a welcoming gesture for returning kiwi heroes and International visitors.
This initiative is part of an overall policy to lift the enforcement of race numbers and number formats outlined in the MNZ rule book to ensure our championship events maintain the integrity they deserve.
