Proposed Changes to Sports Anti-doping Rules for 2011
Update: 4th October 2010 - Sports Tribunal of New Zealand has recently reviewed and revised its policy on sanctions that it will impose in anti-doping cases involving cannabis violations.
The Sports Tribunal advises that it will now be imposing longer sanctions of suspension:
- The starting point for a first anti-doping violation involving cannabis will now be four months' ineligibility (suspension).
- This period may be increased or decreased depending on the presence of aggravating or mitigating factors.
- This will bring the Tribunal's sanctions in line with those recently imposed in overseas jurisdictions in cannabis cases.
15th February 2010 - The FIM intensifies it's Anti-Doping Programme
In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code which was adopted by the FIM in 2003 and in order to intensify its anti-doping testing programme for in and out-of-competition, the FIM has established a registered testing pool which includes riders taking part in its various FIM World Championships.
The 2010 FIM pool comprises riders from the 5 FIM Sporting Commissions (Road Racing, Motocross, Trial, Enduro and Track Racing) who participated in various 2009 FIM World Championships.
These riders will have to provide the FIM with their whereabouts information using the on-line ADAMS* system. However, riders who are not part of the pool remain subject to unexpected out-of-competition testing.
Moreover, all riders remain subject to in-competition testing.

2010 Updates
Pseudoephedrine Now Prohibited In-Competition:
The status of pseudoephedrine has changed as of January 1, 2010. Pseudoephedrine is now prohibited in-competition. If high levels of pseudoephedrine are found in an athlete's sample (150 micrograms per millilitre) then an adverse analytical finding will have occurred.

Asthma Medications - New Process for Two Common Medications:
There has been a change in the status of two very commonly used asthma medications. The Beta-2-Agonists Salbutamol (ventolin, respigen) and Salmeterol (serevent) no longer require a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for any level of competition. Athletes must declare their use on the doping control form and/or by completing a Declaration of Use form available online from

Note: All other Beta-2 Agonist medications require a TUE.
